CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Chesterfield County Public Schools has announced changes to its calendar to make up for the seven days students missed because of winter weather.

School leaders announced Wednesday that a scheduled holiday (Feb. 17) and two early-release days (Feb. 26 and March 26) will now be regular school days for students.

“Missing so much class time disrupted our students’ education,” Superintendent Marcus Newsome said in a news release. “To keep students on pace with our curriculum, we must make up some of that missed time.”

Chesterfield schools already made up one missed day on Jan. 27.

Officials said that if more bad weather causes school closings or delays, that time could be made up by lengthening the time students are in school each day. Spring break and Memorial Day will not be used for makeup time.
