RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond police are investigating a homicide on the city's Southside after a woman was found shot to death early Friday morning inside a car.

It happened along the 2100 block of Mandalay Rd., off Hull Street Road, around 2 a.m.

"It's just shocking," Manchester Lakes apartments resident Laverne Henley said. "We never have any problems over here."

Richmond police swarmed the South Richmond complex after a violent disturbance.

"I'm going to keep to myself, like I continue to do and just be careful about my surroundings," said Henley.

Police said someone shot and killed a woman while sitting in her car in the parking lot. But detectives do not believe it was a random act.

Sources tell CBS 6 that the victim was visiting her boyfriend at the time. When the couple got into an argument moments before the shooting, the man's mother, who lives in the complex, called 911.

Police are not confirming that information. Police do not believe this crime was "random" and are in the process of identifying the victim and notifying her family.

Police have not yet released information about the person they believe killed the woman.

Neighbors are on edge and wants the management at the complex to do something.

"It's crazy. It makes me just want to pack up and find some where else to go," resident Joseph Timberlake said. "But I mean, it's everywhere."

CBS 6 News reached out to management at the Manchester Lakes apartments, but we are still waiting for a call back.

Police asked anyone with information that could help investigators to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
