VIRGINIA BEACH,  Va. (WTVR) – Thousands of dollars have been donated to the public fund set up by a Virginia Beach lawyer to help pay former governor Bob McDonnell’s legal fees.

McDonnell and his wife Maureen were indicted for accepting thousands of dollars in gifts from a wealthy political donor.

The “Restoration Fund,” which was created in July by a man who said he is not affiliated with the governor, has raised $11,554, according to the Virginian Pilot.

The newspaper reports the largest donations came from the chairman of the project, Virginia Beach lawyer Stanley Baldwin, and the retired co-found of Dollar Tree, J. Douglas Perry of Norfolk.

The McDonnells are scheduled to go on trial July.
