CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - An overturned tractor trailer closed all lanes on Interstate 95 north in Chesterfield County early Wednesday morning. The interstate reopened before  8 a.m.

“People driving at the posted speed limit, they are putting their lives at risk, other drivers and the first responders who are out here investigating these crashes,”  Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar said.

Molnar isn't saying the tractor trailer crash was a result of speed, but speed did play a factor in other collisions across metro-Richmond.

“State police responded to over 117 crashes as a result of the snowstorm,” Molnar said.

As commuters tried getting around the truck crash scene, at least one driver became stuck along the shoulder.

Nearly five hours after the big rig caused the big backup, the area was cleared. Fortunately the driver walked away unharmed.

The accident happened near mile marker 57, south of Woods Edge Rd.
