RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR/CNN) – Michaels, an arts and crafts retailer, announced Saturday that they may have had a security breach, which resulted in fraudulent activity on credit cards.

Michaels hasn’t confirmed the breach, but wanted to alert customers to the possible problem.

“We are concerned there may have been a data security attack on Michaels that may have affected our customers’ payment card information and we are taking aggressive action to determine the nature and scope of the issue,” Michaels CEO Chuck Rubin said.

Rubin said Michaels customers should review “their payment card account statements for unauthorized charges.”

The company doesn’t know if the possible breach affected in-store or online shoppers, or how many shoppers may have been affected.

Retailers such as Target and Neiman Marcus have also experienced security breaches recently.

Local Michaels stores are located in Midlothian, Glen Allen and Henrico.
