The City of Petersburg will begin replacing the curbs and sidewalks along Canal Street beginning on Tuesday, January 28.

The northbound lane of Canal Street will be closed for construction for several weeks. Canal Street will close to traffic at 7:30 a.m. and will reopen at 5:00 p.m. each day during the work week.

A detour will be in place and marked.

Motorists will be required to travel east on High Street to Cross Street, north on Cross Street to Grove Avenue, and west on Grove Avenue to return to Canal Street.

The City, in a statement, said they regret any inconvenience this may cause, but that they look “forward to the improvements to Petersburg’s entranceway from Virginia State University and Chesterfield County.”
