COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va (WTVR) -- It's the jolt after the snow and ice disappear that often frustrates drivers.

Hitting a pothole might rattle your nerves, but it can damage your car to the tune of more than $1000. The lower end is closer to $50.

Common damage includes getting your car out of alignment. Visible damage includes denting aftermarket rims.

If you hit a pothole hard enough, your tie rods can or a belt in your tire can break.

Mechanics like Cole Henry suggest seeing your mechanic if you do hit a pot hole. That's because unseen damage can lead to a accident if the damage is not promptly fixed.
