CHESTER, Va. (WTVR) -- When Kathy Thomas woke up Sunday morning, she discovered a flyer claiming to be from the Loyal White Knights of the Klu Klux Klan.

"My heart started beating fast. I said, 'What in the world,'" Thomas said.

The flyer was left at homes throughout her neighborhood in Chester. They were placed in plastic bags at the end of driveways with a message speaking out against Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"It's just sad and it's unsettling. I hope the young people realize this is hate, this is not love," said Thomas.

CBS 6 spoke with Sam Green, who said he was the Great Titan of the Richmond area and a member of the Klan.

"I don't understand why people would be upset about the truth," said Green.

He said the group meant nothing racist by the flyers, and said they were not discriminating against Dr. King because he is black.

Neighbors said they believe the flyers were dropped off sometime in the middle of the night or early morning. They said the message about Dr. King on the flyer infuriated them.

"Who does this, in 2014?" asked Thomas.

"This man stood up for equality for everyone, but I do understand that folks have their opinion. They say what they like to say but don't force it on folks," said Tony Hobbs, who also got a flyer.

The neighbors said they felt it was disrespectful, and don't know why their neighborhood was chosen.

"Show your faces, show the neighbors who you are," said Thomas.

Green, a member of the Klan said the group does go out in daylight at times when passing out flyers.
