NORFOLK, Va. (WTKR)– Officials announced on Tuesday night that they have recovered the remains of the missing crew member who was involved in the Navy helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two others.

Divers searched the wreckage of the MH-53E Sea Dragon and found the remains of missing pilot, Lt. Sean Christopher Snyder on Tuesday.

Officials say divers from the Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit operating aboard the USNS Grasp found the aircraft’s cockpit late Monday using a remotely operated vehicle.

That’s when they confirmed that they’d found the remains in the wreckage.

The salvage operations were suspended on Monday because of weather conditions. The Grasp resumed recovery efforts this morning.

A memorial service is planned for the three victims of the crash on Friday at Naval Station Norfolk.
