RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--Two cats have disappeared, and a police report has been filed.

Now neighbors in the Battery Park area are being warned to keep a close eye on their pets.

Leroy Zimmerman learned Sunday about the cats being snatched up on Griffin Avenue, allegedly by a woman in a maroon five-door hatchback.

"I kind of watch them, normally I would let them run free but now I make sure that they are doing what they need to do and I kind of check on them and make sure they are not there too long," Zimmerman said about the family's two dogs.

Neighbor Emily Smith said  she will pay attention to her two dogs as well as the other cats and dogs in the area.

"It's definitely a pet friendly neighborhood," she said.

"It's kind of crazy, it just doesn't make any sense, I don't know why someone would go onto someone's house, on their porch and take their cats," Smith said, just before letting her two dogs out in her fenced in back yard.

The suspect is described as a white female, short but heavy set, wearing a grey hat and grey coat.

Anyone with information about her is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
