UPDATE: "A 13-year-old male juvenile has been charged with Possession of a Firearm on School Property, a class 6 felony," Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney wrote in an email. "The juvenile was placed into Juvenile Detention yesterday. A court date is set for later this month. The investigation continues as to how the juvenile obtained the weapon."

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police took a 13-year-old Wilder Middle School student into custody Monday after officers received a tip the student brought a gun to school.

"A loaded magazine was found in the student’s pants pocket," Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney wrote in an email. "The student’s book bag was in another location within the school. When the book bag was searched, an unloaded handgun was found."

When the school was locked down about 11:40 a.m., school administrators and the School Resource Officer found the student in the cafeteria.

"At this time, there are no reports that the gun was used in a threatening manner," Lt. Toney said.

The lock down was lifted around noon.

Charges against the student are pending, police said.

Wilder Middle School is located along the 6900 block of Wilkinson Road.
