AMELIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The parents of a 10-year-old boy accused of accidentally shooting his 11-year-old brother in the face pled no contest to failure to secure a firearm with a minor under the age of 14.

Patrick and Joanna Callawaywere fined $100 for the Class 3 misdemeanor.

Amelia Commonwealth Attorney Lee Harrison said he worked out a plea deal with the Callaways because he could not prove their negligence. He said he could prove they failed to properly secure the gun.

The couple’s children were home alone the morning of Oct. 9 when the 11-year-old was accidentally shot in the face, investigators said. The child survived the shooting.

Last October we learned the child was charged with reckless handling of a firearm. That case has come to a conclusion, however we have not yet learned its outcome.
