RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front and pass through the state.  The storms should be in western Virginia by midday, central Virginia (I-95 & Richmond metro) in the 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. time frame, and areas east of I-95 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Heavy rainfall will occur with the showers and thunderstorms.  There is the slight risk for an isolated storm to get strong or severe with high wind gusts.  The best chance for this will be in central and eastern Virginia.  Outside of the storms, southwesterly winds will gust over 25 mph during the day.

High temperatures will be in the neighborhood of records during the afternoon across southeast Virginia.  This is especially amazing considering we set a new record low just Tuesday morning.

A wedge of colder air will stay locked into western and northwestern Virginia much of the day, keeping temperatures significantly cooler there.

Rainfall will end Saturday evening, followed by clearing Saturday night into Sunday.
