RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A section of Walmsley Boulevard between Branchwood and Chesco will close for 90 days on Monday. During that time, the city will work to install a storm sewer designed to combat standing water and flooding in the area.

“Work consists of providing storm drain improvements along Gregory Ave., Chesco Rd., Walmsley Blvd. and Branchwood Dr.,” according to the city. “The proposed system will outfall to an existing creek.”

The city said closing the lanes and detouring traffic is necessary.

“The project contractor must install storm sewer within the Walmsley Blvd roadway due to the density of existing utilities within the right-of-way green area. The detour route will accommodate two-way traffic to allow vehicles to detour from both the west and east. Residents who live in the neighborhood will still be able to access their homes during the detour time period,” the city wrote in an email.
