NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WTKR) -- Shortly before 12:30 a.m. on New Years, police responded to a call that a child was shot in the foot by a stray bullet.
The child was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
Despite this incident being non-fatal, residents are still concerned about what could come next. William Hailey, who lives on the block where police say the shooting happened, is one of many concerned neighbors.
“It was like World War III around here,” Hailey said. “I mean, it was a lot of gunfire but people do that all the time.”
