ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The National Transit Safety Board released a preliminary report of the plane crash that killed 52-year-old Gregory Voit on Dec. 18.

According to WCAV, the report says the pilot, Voit, contacted the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport (CHO) control tower saying he was having engine problems.

Around 11:10 a.m., Voit sent a transmission to the airport tower saying he was not going to make it to the airport.

His plane crashed in front of a home about 3 miles away from the airport.  In their report, the NTSB said the plane hit several tree limbs and that the wreckage path spread about 200 feet.

State Police said he died on impact.

Voit’s plane took off around 9:45 a.m. from Woodbine Municipal Airport (OBI) in Woodbine, N.J.  He was flying to Charlottesville to visit his son.
