CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- The Bottoms family has been decorating their house on Long Hill Rd. in Midlothian since 1995.

Changes are made each year, but this holiday season there's one important addition.

The Bottoms put up a sign in their yard, which shared the story of 24-year-old Jonathan Bottoms. Last month he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. It happened near his house, and was caught on camera by Jonathan himself.

"I've looked at it so many times just to see what I did," said Jonathan.

The family didn't know how long he would be in the hospital for, as he suffered a number of internal injuries and broken bones.

The sign placed in the family's yard was a way to collect donations for Jonathan to help out with medical costs and other things since he isn't able to work.

"It's been overwhelming, it's incredible. It just reminds you that there's a lot of people out there that still care," said Jonathan.

Jonathan said he is still taking one day at a time as he recovers, but has a message for those who have helped him along the way.

"I just want to thank everybody for the support. You don't know how much it means to my family," said Jonathan.

The family said they have raised thousands of dollars and the lights will be up until New Year's Day.
