RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Richmond Nativity Pageant scheduled Monday night at the Carillon has been canceled, according to pageant director Paige Quilter.

While the event’s website indicated tonight’s pageant would be held at 7 p.m. “Rain or Shine,” Quilter said that was not the case and today’s rain forced the cancellation.

She said it was too dangerous to perform under the wet conditions once you consider the performers’ footing, electrical and sound equipment.

More than 200 people worked to put on the pageant. More than 1,000 people were expected to attend tonight’s pageant.

Quilter said she believed this was the first time in 20 years the pageant had to be cancelled.
