HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- A man died in a massive house fire in eastern Henrico County Sunday evening.

Crews were dispatched around 6:15 p.m. to a home on Old Memorial Dr.

CBS 6 reporter Joe St. George said that an adult male died in the blaze that destroyed the single-story dwelling. Eyewitnesses told St. George that they heard loud popping noises coming from the home.

According to Captain Rosenbaum with the Henrico Fire Department, the house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Fire crews made an aggressive exterior fire attack to knock down most of the blaze.  The single family ranch style home was heavily damaged by fire, but fire crews were able to contain the fire to the original structure.

A neighboring house suffered only minor damage from the fire.  The house fire was marked under control at 6:49 PM.

Henrico fire marshals, along with Henrico police, will complete an investigation to determine what caused the fire.
