RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — The City of Richmond and Venture Richmond unveiled a design for the first ever RVA license plate Thursday.

The custom plate is inspired by the popular RVA Creates’ open-source branding initiative, which as CBS 6’s Mark Holmberg reported last April, was developed by a team of VCU  students.

In fact, over 200,000 RVA stickers have popped up across the region on cars, bikes, trucks, laptops and other odds and ends.

However, in order to get the license plates into production, Venture Richmond and the city must pre-sell over 350 plates before they can submit the proposed design to DMV.

Once they have collected and submitted the applications, it could take up to 9 months for the plates to be produced.
