Arrests made in Hopewell Walgreen’s armed robbery

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) — Hopewell police have arrested the suspects responsible for an armed robbery that happened around 10 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Walgreen’s in the 3900 block of Oaklawn Blvd.

According to police, two suspects entered the store just after 10 p.m. and approached the cash register, while a third suspect remained outside.

The first suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, while the second suspect robbed an unsuspecting customer that approached the register.

Police said that they have arrested three suspects–two adults and one juvenile.

Joseph Oliver Giles, age 41 of Hopewell, faces multiple charges;  robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm being a convicted felon.

Maurice Jerome Pettaway Jr, age 19 of Hopewell, is charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit a robbery.

An unnamed juvenile, age 15 of Spring Grove, has juvenile charges pending for robbery and Cconspiracy to commit a robbery

“Investigators worked diligently to get these dangerous offenders off the street. We will continue to focus on these types of incidents for quick resolution, to ensure the safety of our community,” Chief John Keohane said.
