RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Attorney General candidate Mark Obenshain (R - Virginia) conceded the Virginia Attorney General race to Democrat Mark Herring.

"It's become apparent our campaign is going to come up a few votes short," Obenshain said during an afternoon press conference at the Virginia General Assembly building.

Today's announcement comes one day after Herring widened his lead over Obenshain during the recount process. The lead is more than 800 votes. At one point the candidates were 165 votes apart. More than 2 million Virginians voted for attorney general in the 2013 election.

"Today is not the day to contest the process or question the results," he said.
