ST. PETERS, Missouri (KSDK) - A father who has been deaf for more than 50 years was finally able to hear his daughter's voice.

"I knew he was getting a hearing aid, but I didn't know if it was going to work," daughter Ashley Stehle said. The hearing aid is a piece of new technology only available for about 12 months. It requires Ashley to wear a special microphone.

"This microphone will go to this receiver and this receiver will go up to his hearing aid," she explained.

To make the moment extra special,  Ashely surprised her father by singing her first solo.

The song? "Daddy please come home for Christmas."

"He was just closing his eyes and listening to my voice," she recalled.

"It's amazing I had goosebumps all over me I'm very proud of my daughter," Ken Stehle said.

Ken said he was grateful for the hearing aid and amazed at how many sounds there are in everyday life.
