CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A 24-year-old Chesterfield man is facing six charges of possessing child porn.
Between 2008 and 2013, police said James Brent Phillips downloaded multiple vile videos depicting minors engaging in sex acts with each other and adults.
"A lot of these victims are anonymous, but they are very real," Chesterfield Police Lt. David Shand said. "Potentially, he is facing serious and significant jail time."
Shand said investigators tracked down Phillips after he sold a gaming system to a Colonial Heights computer store. Workers preparing to resell the system noticed suspicious images and contacted police. Chesterfield Police confiscated Phillips' computer from his home.
"This is not the usual method they come into contact with these cases, but it’s a good heads up on their part," Lt. Shand said. "Upon examination numerous videos and images were uncovered."
CBS 6 News visited Phillips' River Road home in southern Chesterfield, but no one answered the door.
Eric Tillery, who works a few doors down from Phillips' home, said Phillips was sexually abused by relatives as a young boy. He said if the child porn charges are true, Phillips should spend years behind bars.
"It is disgusting. Nobody should be downloading anything like that," Tillery said. "People who do child porn? You should lock them up and throw them away."
Shand had a warning for anyone who attempts to view or download child pornography.
"When we find you we're going to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law," he said.
CBS 6 contacted James Phillips' attorney, but never heard back from him. Phillips is out on bond. If he is convicted on all six counts he faces a maximum of 55 years in prison.
