Man washes ashore after car found on bridge five weeks ago

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (WTVR)–The Prince George County Police Department in coordination with the Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the body that washed up on the shore of the James River last week.

Police are still working with the Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death., but identified the victim as John Burr, age 61, of Chesterfield.

Prince George Police are asking the public if they have any information about a missing person whose car was recently found unattended on a bridge.

Police said that John Burr’s 2012 Volkswagen Jetta was found on the Benjamin Harrison Bridge in Prince George County at 1 p.m. on Nov. 20.

Police described John Burr as a white male, 5’11 and 220 pounds, age 61. His hair and eyes are brown.

The Prince George Police Department along with Prince George Fire and EMS, Virginia State Police, Virginia Marine Police, Coast Guard, and Virginia Department of Emergency Management have conducted and extensive search of the James River near the Benjamin Harrison Bridge.
