Chester woman killed in cattle truck crash in Montana

BUTTE, Mont. (WTVR) -- A woman from Chester was killed in an accident involving a cattle truck in Montana last week.

It happened on Interstate 90 west of Butte, Mont. around 4:20 p.m. Thursday.

Police said 29-year-old Samantha Barnaby, who was traveling with two other people who were critically injured when the pickup truck they were riding in slammed into the back of an empty cattle truck.

Barnaby died at a local hospital.

As of Saturday, the Montana Standard reportedthe man and 10-year-old girl who were also in the pickup remained hospitalized with serious injuries.

The paper reports Barnaby and the 29-year-old man driving the pickup were not wearing seat belts.

The highway patrol said a 47-year-old Kansas man driving the truck illegally turned the big rig into the emergency lane before pulling into the westbound lanes of the interstate.

A trooper said the semi driver, who was treated and released from an area hospital, will be cited for traffic violations.

Additionally, the newspaper reports officials are awaiting test results from the State Crime Lab to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the wreck.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
