CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Chesterfield County lunch lady pleaded guilty to stealing money from her own cafeteria.

Tabitha Heyman was charged with embezzlement after she stole more than $4,000 last school year from Monacan High School, according to police. The thefts took place over a period of several months, police said.

Heyman was allowed to remain free on bond.  She is due back in court in Feb. for sentencing. Embezzlement carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

CBS 6 legal expert Todd Stone said judges typically take a harsher stance on embezzlement cases since the charge typically deals with someone accused of stealing money they were entrusted to handle appropriately.

Heyman's co-workers reported the crime to police.
