Police: ‘Puppy story’ and child abduction attempt were falsely reported

Lt. Toney, with Henrico Police, distributed an email stating that further investigation revealed that the incident was falsely reported. The  investigation continues however there was  no attempted abduction.   There are no additional details to release at this time.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -Police are looking for a man involved in an attempted abduction in Henrico.

"A 12-year-old male was walking on Hunters Mill Drive near Sandy Lane when a male suspect driving a red vehicle approached him," Henrico Police Lt. Linda Toney wrote about the Monday afternoon incident. "The male offered the juvenile money if he would help him find his puppy.  The juvenile ignored the suspect and continued walking.  The suspect got out of his vehicle and attempted to grab the juvenile by the arm; however, the juvenile was able to run away."

Police said they were notified about the incident "several hours" after the child told family members what had happened.

"The suspect is described as a black male with a gold upper front tooth, with a mole on his cheek, wearing a dark shirt and sunglasses on his head," Lt. Toney wrote.
