CAROLINE COUNTY (WTVR) – Virginia State Police are investigating two deaths at the intersection of Jericho Road and Route 1 in Caroline County.

At 1:15 p.m., a 2011 Kia Sorento was traveling east on Jericho Road when it collided with a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to Virginia State Police spokesperson Corrine Geller.

The pickup truck was traveling north on Route 1.  The impact of the crash forced the pickup truck to run off the road and strike a utility pole.

The driver of the Kia Sorento, 44-year-old Michael Lastes of Fredericksburg, was not injured in the crash.  His wife was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, 26-year-old Deonn Bailey of Colonial Beach, and his 4-year-old son suffered minor injuries.  They were treated on scene.

Bailey’s parents, 52-year-old Michael Bailey and 51-year-old Constella Bailey died at the scene.  The 4-year-old was properly secured in a child safety seat.

All of the adults were wearing safety belts.

Charges are pending at this time.  The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
