RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – VCU graduate student Olugbenga Oluwatumilara “Tumi” Oredein Jr. has won the Walmart’s Get on the Shelf contest.
Tumi advanced through several rounds of competing designers who wanted to have their invention sold at Walmart. The top five finishers get shelf space and the grand winner gets Walmart’s massive marketing support as well.
Oredein’s invention was“SKRIBS Customizable Wristbands” which “provides kids with an easy way to draw, erase, and start over.” Children simply swipe their finger or tissue across the band’s writing surface to erase.
This year there were two winners. The other grand prize winner was Elvis Presley Home Bedding Collection by David Bursteen.
As grand prize winners, both products will be sold on Walmart.com and receive additional online marketing support. They will also be introduced to the Walmart Stores’ Merchandising team for store shelf consideration.
A three-pack of Skibs and a dry erase marker will sell for $8.95. Orders can be placed atwww.walmart.com or www.skribs.com/walmart.
