Weekend Events: Hollywood Costume at VMFA, InLight Richmond and more

19th annual Holiday Shoppers Fair at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Road, Friday, November 8 Saturday, November  9, 9:30am-5pm; featuring 14 of Richmond's finest museum stores, quality items for sale, from Lewis Ginter to the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar to Richmond Railway Museum, you'll find one of a kind items to purchase. In addition to a day of shopping you can have lunch at the shoppers fair, students from the Virginia Randolph culinary school are preparing lunch Saturday from 11am to 2pm. Hollywood Costume, display at the Virginia Museum Of Fine Arts opening Saturday, November 9 through February 17, the exhibition celebrates the role of costume design in nearly a century of American cinema and is the only East Coast Venue showing the iconic costumes. This is a Once in a lifetime opportunity to see clothes worn by beloved characters in films like The Wizard of Oz, The Birds, My Fair Lady, Spiderman, Titanic, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and The Dark Knight Rises and dozens more. The museum will also feature 60 Films/60 Days, a movie a day extravaganza from November 29 through January 31, presenting 60 movie titles featuring costumes from Hollywood Costume. Children's Museum of Richmond presents Traveling Exhibition "Block by Block: Inventing Amazing Architecture" through December 31 ten landmark skyscrapers each constructed with LEGO toy building bricks by Dan Parker LEGO Certified Professional. Structures include One World Trade Center, the Seattle Space Needle, Burj Khalifa in Dubia among others. The museum is also offering three adult evenings to see the exhibit with a variety of beverages, November 14 & 21 and December 12, Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance. Richmond Philharmonic celebrates the beginning of its 5th decade of service to the Richmond Community and the appointment of a new music director Peter Wilson. The 2013-2014 season kicks off Sunday, November 10 at 4pm with the opening concert "Milestones" at the VCU Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Avenue. The performance includes Verdi's "Overture to Nabucco", Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op 67" and several other master pieces. InLight Richmond, Organized by 1708 Gallery, is a public exhibition of light-based art and performances. InLight Richmond 2013 is Friday, November 8, in downtown Shockoe along the Canal Walk from the Turning Basin to 17th Street.  The InLight 2013 site is marked by the intersections of Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom, the Kanawha Canal, the Floodwall, Interstates 95 and 195, and railroad lines. The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will host a Veterans Day commemoration celebration on Monday November 11, starting at 7 p.m.  at the World War I Memorial Carillon located in Byrd Park 1300 Blanton Avenue.  Performers include Lawrence Robinson, City Carillonneur who will perform on the Carillon Bells; and The Virginians, the performing chorus of the Richmond Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  The Virginians will be performing various patriotic and barbershop selections.
