McAuliffe taps Mayor Jones to chair inauguration committee

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe held his first post-election press conference Wednesday afternoon in at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond. McAuliffe, a Democrat, captured 47 percent of the vote Tuesday to defeat Republican Ken Cuccinelli. Cuccinelli received 45 percent of the vote.

McAuliffe has named Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones as co-chair of his inauguration committee. He named state Del. Jennifer McClellan (D - Richmond) as head of his transition team.

Governor-elect McAuliffe is scheduled to meet with Governor Bob McDonnell Thursday at the Executive Mansion.\

"We gave started to build the administration today," McAuliffe said.

McAuliffe made a promise to reach out to every single member of the General Assembly before he assumes office in January.

"From now until election day I will reach out to Democrats and Republicans to build friendship and mutual trust," McAuliffe added.

McAuliffe told CBS 6 reporter Joe St. George he has yet to receive a phone call from Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli yet and that he is "not surprised" that hasn't occurred.

McAuliffe told the press that his first executive order as Governor will be to end discrimination for LGBT employees in the Commonwealth. McAuliffe said his second executive order will be to limit gifts to members of the First Family.
