MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WTVR) - It's common to see deer in Midlothian's Collington neighborhood.

"In hunting season they definitely get scattered and come across right here at the entrance," said William Latimer, who lives in Collington.

He said many people are always on alert for deer, especially when driving. However AAA Mid-Atlantic also wants to send a message to drivers to be extra cautious of deer this month. Experts say November has more deer related crashes than any other month in Virginia.

"I'm not surprised, I would expect that," said Latimer.

This time of year is peak for deer mating season. It can put drivers at risk if they hit a deer, often causing vehicle damage, injuries, or even death.

Experts said motorcycle riders are the most at risk, and are more likely to be involved in a fatal crash if they hit a deer.

"You really have to keep a lookout for them," said Chris Cole, who also lives in the Collington neighborhood.
