HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - One of the workers burned Friday in what Henrico fire officials called a "flash fire" has died.

An official with Hadley Construction in Pittson, Penn., told CBS 6 News that one of the two workers injured in the fire died Saturday. The victim was in his 20s.

The official said the other worker, who is  37 years old, is in critical condition. That worker suffered burns over 90 percent of his body and has undergone six surgeries since Friday.

Fire crews were called to a warehouse along the 7400 of Ranco Rd., behind the Staples Mill Rd. Amtrak station, about 2:20 p.m. Friday.

Both men workered for a construction company hired to salvage materials from the building.  At the time of the fire the workers were on at lift removing pipes and ventilation ducting.

While doing this work a fire occurred.  Both workers were able to make it off of the lift and out of the building on their own.  The two were transported to VCU with life threatening burns.

Henrico Fire Lt. Danny Rosenbaum said they were the only people in the building at the time of the incident, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
