RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The cast iron Huguenot Memorial Bridge placard stolen from the old bridge this week has been recovered, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). VDOT reported the stolen Tuesday.

“An attempted theft was unsuccessful when the crook was unable to carry the heavy sign, which weighs over 75 pounds, out of the Huguenot Flatwater Park,” VDOT wrote in am email. “A representative from the Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation found the abandoned sign along the park trail and returned it to VDOT this morning.”

VDOT said a celebration to mark the opening on the new Huguenot Memorial Bridge will take place next week at the Huguenot Flatwater Park under the Huguenot Bridge.
