Trees at peak Fall color in western Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Peak Fall foliage color continues for the final days of October in western Virginia!

Foliage Network spotter Marek D. Rzonca says, “Throughout the Appalachians, color change is high (61% – 80% change) to peak.  Elsewhere in the region, color change is mostly moderate. Leaf drop is low to moderate in lower elevations and mostly moderate to high in the higher elevations.”

This year is considered to be one of Virginia’s best Fall foliage seasons in years because of the end of the drought and limited severe weather events. Color change is progressing on cue for a typical season, as documented by the Virginia Department of Forestry:
