Robbery near Siegel Center prompts VCU alert

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia Commonwealth University issued an overnight alert following a robbery reported on campus.

The victim told police he was punched in the face by two men at the corner of Ryland and Broad Streets about 12:40 a.m. Friday. The men took the victim's phone and keys. They were last seen running down an alley near where the crime took place.

"The first suspect was described as a light complexion black male in his early 20’s, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a white and black shirt. The second suspect was described as a dark complexion black male in his early 20’s," according to the VCU alert. "Through the investigation it was determined that there is no longer an ongoing threat."

Despite the determination that there was no longer a threat, police increased patrols in this area, the VCU alert added.

The Richmond Police Department is investigating the crime. VCU did not indicated whether or not the victim was a student.
