ETTRICK, Va. (WTVR) - Homecoming weekend is Virginia State University's largest event of the year, according to spokesman Tom Reed.

Reed said the game draws more people than any other of the year.

With the large crowds, CBS 6 asked if any extra security measures were in place in light of Wednesday's event on campus.

Earlier this week a fight broke out near the football field where a student was stabbed. After, several other fights occurred nearby.

"That's not what we're really like," one student told CBS 6.

Reed said the school always has extra security on campus during any homecoming weekend. He said they team up with other law enforcement jurisdictions.

Reed said with increased security already at the VSU, the school believed it didn't need to add more. He said officials were prepared if anything got out of hand.

CBS 6 talked to students who said they weren't concern of anything violent happening again during Saturday's football game.

"We've got police officers, the gates are being monitored...so I feel secure," said

They said they are ready to move forward after Wednesday's incident," said Danica Hubbard.
