Coincidence?

The partial shutdown ends in Washington just hours after news breaks of the rescue of a Republican press secretary’s hound named “Blue” by a key democratic operative.

Together, they crossed the great political divide - for the love of dogs! - on this past rainy Sunday when national party leaders were doggedly ignoring each other and their rather hangdog political doggerel.

Stage right we have Tucker Martin, Gov. Bob McDonnell’s boyish  press secretary known for bow ties and friendly but concise banter with reporters. It is he who feeds and loves the hound named Blue, a surprisingly swift, stumpy-legged canine whose feet point outward, somewhat penguinlike.

Stage left we have Clark Mercer, the political director of the Democratic Party of Virginia, a behind-the-scenes man whose job is NOT to trade pleasantries with reporters. He, too, has a beloved hound, a spotted hunter  inconveniently named Chester instead of “Red.”

Find out what happens when Martin’s Blue smells a deer and takes off at Poor Farm Park . . .and how political factions have no doggone role in this amazing tale.
