RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – If the damp weather over the past week kept you from leaf peeping, don’t worry, you haven’t missed the peak color in western Virginia yet!

Foliage changes in the mountains of Virginia are at 31% – 60% now. Columbus Day is generally the “start” of the good color in the Commonwealth, moving west to east.  The typical peak color occurs in the mountains in late October.

Even though you have probably noticed some lovely color in central Virginia over the past week, only 11% – 30% of the trees are changing now. It’s still early for locations east of the Blue Ridge.

Even though it was a bit blustery at times last week while the stubborn low pressure system spun offshore, leaf drop remains low in central Virginia.

Please note that Virginia’s Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park is NOW OPEN as of this posting. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also open.
