CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WTVR) -- The names of four victims have been released after crews found the wreckage of a plane in the Great Dismal Swamp just after 4 p.m. on Friday.
WTKR reports a privately owned helicopter aiding crews with their search saw the plane and notified police. Officials said crews are now headed to the remote section of the swamp where the wreckage was spotted.
Officials said the Cesna aircraft originating from Ft. Lauderdale in Florida never made it to the Hampton Roads Executive Airport Thursday afternoon.
Police said Theodore Bradshaw, 61, and Mary Ann Bradshaw, 48, of Fort Lauderdale. They also identified Charles Rodd, 64, and Diane Rodd, 58, of Palm Beach.
Officials said the four were going to Theodore’s nephew’s wedding.
The plane was found a half-mile from their last reported location.
Officials said Theodore had over 30 years of flight experience.
Virginia State Police were notified at 4:15 p.m. that the plane had not landed at the airport.
As a result, state police crews are searched in and around the Great Dismal Swamp with technology capable of locating heat sources.
