RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — TheFriends of Richmond K9group hosted a fundraiser Sunday to raise money and awareness about the Richmond Police Department’s four-legged officers.

The public was invited to the “Cookout for K9s” event, which took place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Turning Basin in Shockoe Bottom.

Family fun festivities included police-K9 demos, food, raffles, face painting and the very popular “dunk a police officer” booth where Richmond Police Chief Ray Tarasovic got wet.

Friends of Richmond K9 President Jodi Strange said in a news release that the organization is always glad to assist the city’s hardworking officers and K9s.

The group works to support current and retired K9s by providing preventative heartworm, flea and tick treatments. In many cases, many officers have to pay for their retired K9 partners medications.
