State Fair of Virginia Music Guide

The State Fair of Virginia returns this year, Sept. 27-Oct. 6 and includes all-time favorites as well as new attractions and shows.

Below is a list of music acts at the Festival Stage. Below that is a list of the local music acts that will be hosted at the Triple Crown Theater. For information on parking, tickets, food vendors, and other activities, check out the Complete State Fair of Virginia Guide 2013.

John Anderson

Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. Country music legend John Anderson signed with Warner Bros. in 1977 and made his mark on the Top 10 with signature hits like “Swingin,’” “Wild and Blue” and “Straight Tequila Night.” His 1992 album Seminole Wind achieved double-Platinum certification. Read More

Michelle Nixon & Drive

Friday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. This energetic Virginia-based group incorporates the classic sounds of yesterday’s country music with the contemporary sound of today’s bluegrass. Read More

Darin and Brooke Aldridge

Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. “The Sweethearts of Bluegrass” drew praise for their self-titled debut album a year ago. The Cherryville, N.C., duo have been recognized as notable emerging artists by the International Bluegrass Music Association and the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music. Read More

Sunday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.
(Presented by Drive Smart Virginia) This American Idol standout grew up with a guitar in his hands and sang before he could talk. His debut album,Casey James, landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums chart in 2012.Read More

USAF Heritage of America Band’s Blue Aces

Monday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m.
Blue Aces features seven professional airman-musicians who perform an exciting mix of classic rock, top 40, Motown, R&B and contemporary patriotic music.

Bak N Da Day

Monday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.“Get Up and Dance”—swing, boogie, twist, slop, mashed potatoes, boogaloo, cha-cha and even slow drag. Take a trip down memory lane with Bak N Da Day, masters of vocal group harmony with a dynamic sound encompassing Doo-Wop, Motown and Philly Soul from the’50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

Tuesday, Oct. 1 (Senior Day), at 2 and 7 p.m. Relive musical memories of country music legends The Statler Brothers.

392nd Army Band’s Big Band and Pop Combo

Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 2 and 7 p.m.
The 392nd Army Band is based at Fort Lee. The Big Band will perform at 2 p.m., and the Pop Combo will perform at 7 p.m.



Donna Meade with Four of a Kind

Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.Donna Meade is a former Mercury-PolyGram recording artist and member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame. Prior to moving to Nashville in 1981 and marrying entertainer/sausage magnate Jimmy Dean, she was a popular performer in the Richmond area. She will be joined by some of Richmond’s finest established musicians for an exciting mix of oldies and old and new country music.



Jefferson Starship

Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m.This evolution of Jefferson Airplane features a stellar cast of old and new players, including songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Paul Kantner and vocalist David Freiberg. Both were among creators of the renowned “San Francisco Sound” that changed the course of pop music forever. Read More
