Armed robber steals victim’s iPhone on VCU’s main campus

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — Police are stepping up patrols at Virginia Commonwealth University after an armed robber pulled out a gun and stole a victim’s smartphone on the Monroe Park Campus late Friday night.

A VCU alert said that the robbery took place just before 11:55 p.m. at Laurel and Cumberland streets.

Police said the victim was walking through a vacant lot when the suspect came up from behind, pulled out a silver handgun and said, “Give me your iPhone.”

The victim, who threw their phone to the ground, said the suspect snatched up the phone and ran off, according to police.

The  the suspect is described as a black male, between 5 fee 6 inches tall and wearing a baggy black hoodie and baggy jeans, armed with a silver revolver-style handgun. He was last spotted running westbound on Cumberland Street, from Laurel Street.

Richmond police are investigating the robbery.
