RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Richmond middle school is dealing with an outbreak of scabies.
A parent of a M. L. King Middle School student sent CBS 6 News photos of a letter and fact sheet sent home to parents from Richmond Public Schools addressing the issue.
RPS officials told CBS 6 News late Friday that there were two confirmed cases of scabies at the school.
Scabies, a microscopic mite that hides under the skin and causes allergic reactions, is contracted by physical contact.
As a result, letters and a fact sheet were sent home explaining what the district is doing to contain the outbreak, as well as preventive steps parents can do at home.
The letter states RPS has implemented preventive measures, including making sure staff and students was their hands and having the school nurses go over proper hand washing techniques.
