GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A former Richmond Police officer turned pet rescuer was ordered to part with more than 50 of her animals.

In addition to losing the animals, Annette Thompson, who founded The Pet Rescue Foundation, was ordered to never operate, nor participate in any animal rescue group again.

That deal came as Thompson settled a civil case in Goochland Circuit Court. As part of the deal, Thompson will be allowed to keep three dogs and two cats.

Thompson, 67, was charged with animal cruelty after a March fire at her Goochland home. Deputies on scene said they discovered several dogs at the home in poor physical condition. Five of the dogs had to be euthanized.

The animal cruelty charges against Thompson were noelle prossed earlier this month when the veterinarian who performed necropsies on Thompson’s animals was unable to testify.
