Duo accused in $2,500 scrap metal theft

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) – Two men are in jail accused of stealing $2,500 worth of scrap metal and copper wiring from a Dominion Power substation, according to police in Hopewell.

Officers stopped the men Wednesday night after they were called to Danville St. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. In addition to the theft, police said the men caused $4,000 in damage to the substation.

“We would like to thank the alert citizens who took the time to report suspicious activity in their neighborhood,” Hopewell Police Lt. Damon Stoker said.

Benjamin Peedin, 27, of Hopewell, is charged with Conspiring to Commit Vandalism and Conspiring to Commit Grand Larceny. William Kyle III, 40, of Hopewell, is charged with Grand Larceny, Vandalism (felony), Trespassing, and Possession of Burglary Tools.
