(CNN) — Severe flooding in Jamestown in Colorado’s Boulder County killed one person, authorities said early Thursday morning.

The person died after being trapped in a collapsed structure, said Gabbie Boerkircher, spokeswoman for the county.

There were multiple structures that have collapsed due to heavy rains, authorities said. The exact number of homes was unknown as a rock slide in the area hampered rescue operations.

The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning in the area for early Thursday.

“This is a life threatening situation,” The National Weather Service said. “Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flooding of creeks … streams … roads and culverts.”
