RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – We are tracking two tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Basin. One is the regenerated ghost of Gabrielle, and another in the far East Atlantic could become our first hurricane of the season.

That storm is Tropical Storm Humberto near the Cape Verde Islands just west of Africa. It should continue to strengthen over the next couple of days, and will likely become our first hurricane of the season. Humberto does not pose any threat to the U.S.  Much closer to home, Tropical Storm Gabrielle continues to track northeast of the Bahamas, and also poses no threat to the U.S. Keep up with the latest in the tropics with our CBS 6 Hurricane Tracker.

Let me show you how easy it is to get information from that Hurricane Tracker! These are snapshots of storm information and tracks from our CBS 6 Hurricane Tracker:

Tropical Storm Gabrielle will not threaten the U.S. East Coast, especially with the “kicking” help of the front that passes through Virginia late Thursday into Friday.

Neither will Tropical Storm Humberto impact the U.S. However, it is worth noting because it will probably become our first hurricane of the season within the next day or so.

Humberto will not threaten any major landmasses as it moves away from the Cape Verde Islands west of Africa.

If Humberto becomes a hurricane, it will take ranks with five other known years where it took until September for our first hurricane of the tropical season to form.
