RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- It has been several months since Dr. Yvonne Brandon left office as superintendent of Richmond Public Schools.

Right now, Dr. Jonathan Lewis has been appointed interim superintendent, but the school system has started searching for a new leader.

As a result, the district has hired a search firm and is now asking for the public's help in picking a new leader.

Richmond School Board member Kristen Larson said an online survey is available for people in Richmond to fill out.

The survey is anonymous and asks users to select important characteristics that people would like to see in the next school leader. People can also share their opinion on the challenges and strengths of Richmond Public Schools. [BONUS: Click here for a link to the online survey]

"There's a lot of people touched by the leadership of our school system, so we want to make sure they have meaningful input on who this next leader will be," said Larson.

Leadership is critical for Jesse Senechal, who is an RPS parent. He told CBS 6 News' Chelsea Rarrick that he already filled out the online survey.

"It was one more thing I could try to do to get my voice heard in the process," he said.

Senechal said he is hoping to see a superintendent that will bring the community together and hopes others will also give their input through the survey.

"I just want to make sure that when the decision is made the right people are making it and the right priorities are in place," he said.
